Challenge
A single entrance carried both vehicle and foot traffic. Running both through one powered leaf meant residents and visitors on foot waiting through a full vehicle cycle, and every pedestrian pass adding wear to an operator sized for cars.
Approach
We separated the two flows. A cantilever-style aluminium slider takes the driveway, sized to the travel path and the operator load rather than to the opening alone. A pedestrian gate sits beside it on its own hardware, with its own release, matched in profile and finish so the entrance reads as one piece.
Material
Aluminium throughout. On a barrier island, steel infill is a maintenance liability from the first year, and powder-coated aluminium holds its finish in salt air where steel does not. Fasteners and mounting hardware were selected on the same basis.
Result
Foot traffic no longer waits on the vehicle cycle, and the slider now cycles at the rate it was specified for. Both openings share one access system, so residents carry one credential.
