Challenge
A custom ornamental design that had to satisfy a community design standard and still carry an operator. Ornamental gates are frequently drawn for appearance first, then automated later by someone who inherits a frame that was never meant to move under power.
Approach
The design and the mechanism were specified together. Frame rigidity, hinge placement and the conduit path were fixed during fabrication, so the operator mounts to a structure sized for the load rather than to whatever the finished panel happened to allow.
Review
The design went through community approval before fabrication began, with the finish, height and infill drawn to the standard already in force. That is what keeps a custom gate from coming back for revision after the metal is cut.
Result
A one-off ornamental gate that opens under power the way a stock gate does, because the engineering happened at the drawing stage rather than after installation.
